FAV FIVE

What have you learnt during this assignment?
I have learnt that taking photos regularly can help improve the way your next photo looks as you are teaching yourself how to use your camera better and how to get better photos. I have also learnt that I need to plan photos before I take them because this will also improve my final photos and that taking photos at an unusual angle rather than taking a photo with the subject in the middle can make a big difference to your image as it makes it look a lot more interesting.
How has it improved your photography?
It has improved it as I now know a lot more about how to use the settings on my camera and I’ve learnt different ways to capture a subject using different angles and close ups or distance shots which will all help to make my future images look better.
Your organisational skills?
I now plan my photos so I know exactly what I am taking a photo of rather than not having a clue so I can take the picture much more quickly and it will look better as I have planned it.
Your productivity?
I now take pictures a lot more often as I bring my camera out a lot rather than leaving it at home as during this project, taking one every day has made me see more things to take pictures of.
How can you apply what you’ve learnt to future projects?
I can use all my new knowledge to create better looking final images for future projects and I will also know how to plan my future images and take them knowing what I want to get a shot of!

Day 30 Self Portrait

Date taken: 22/2/13
Location: house
Settings: Shutter Speed 1/80 | Aperture 8f | ISO 6400
What do you like about this photo? How well does it work?
I like how the subject is in the middle of the photo as I think it draws you straight to them which makes it the main focus point. I like the contrast as it makes the black and white have a better effect. It works well, however I could have taken the photo with the camera the different way round and also I feel it is a bit over exposed.
What did you learn from this experiment? If you had to take this photo again what would you do differently?
I learnt that photos do not look as good landscape and I could take this in to mind in my own work by taking them the other way round in the future. If I had taken it again I would have turned the camera around.

Day 29 Refine an idea 2

What didn’t you like about the original photo?
I didnt like that it was overexposed a little and I also didnt like the composition very much.
Why is your new photo better?
I like the composition and the shadow in the image as it makes it look a lot better.

witingsong

Date taken: 20/2/13
Location:my house
Settings: Shutter Speed | Aperture | ISO
What do you like about this photo? How well does it work?
I like the composition of this photo as it is at an unusual angle and I also like the depth of focus as it focus’ on the lyrics.
What did you learn from this experiment? If you had to take this photo again what would you do differently?
I learn that you need to use your imagination when given tasks and make sure you plan ahead. If I took this photo again I would have changed the lighting as I feel the lighting is dull.

Day 27 Friendship

Date taken: 19/2/13
Location: my house
Settings: Shutter Speed 1/125| Aperture6.3f | ISO 3200
What do you like about this photo? How well does it work?
I like the lighting in this photo as it helps to show their facial expressions due to the shadows and lighting on their face. This helps to show their happy emotion which also helps you to know they are friends. I think the photo works well however, I think the composition could be a bit better and also I do not like the messy background.
What did you learn from this experiment? If you had to take this photo again what would you do differently?
I learnt that positioning the subjects in the correct lighting can get a more interesting photo. I can use this in my own work by thinking about the lighting before I take the photo. If I had to take it again I would have made sure the background was plain as I think it would have made for a better image.

(I noticed the book said friendship whilst I was editing it…weird!)

Day 26 Family

Date taken: 18/2/13
Location: kitchen
Settings: Shutter Speed 1/80| Aperture 6.3f | ISO 12800
What do you like about this photo? How well does it work?
I like the lighting in this image as it lights the side of the peoples faces which I think looks interesting. I also like how they are not posing as it makes the image more ‘realistic’. I also like how you can see a story within the image as you can tell that the there is a father figure and a child and that they have a close relationship as he has his arm around her, you can also tell they are a ‘normal’ family as they also have a pet dog with the child is petting which shows they are a caring family. I think it works quite well but the composition could be improved.
What did you learn from this experiment? If you had to take this photo again what would you do differently?
I learnt that photos look more interesting and have more meaning when the subjects are not posing for the camera. I could use this in my work by taking photos of people without telling them to pose. If I did this again I would have taken the photo at a different angle to get better lighting.

What do you like about this photo?
I love the use of colour in this photo as it really catches the eye and I also love the unusual composition as half of the photo is just the swimming pool and the other half is a background with the models which makes it very interesting to look at. I also like the lighting as it looks bright and the colours look very vivid. I also like the reflection in the swimming pool.
What could you learn from this photograph/photographer? How could you use it in your own work?
I could learn that unusual compositions make a photo more interesting and I could try and capture images in an unusual position so I get an interesting composition.

Day 25 3 examples of fashion photography

Photographer: Daniel Kennedy
Date taken (approx): 2012
Location: unknown
What do you like about this photo?
I like the way the photographer has used natural light as a back light, fairy lights as a subject to make the photo interesting and also a lighting set up to light the model as I think the combination make it a much more interesting photo. I also like the composition as the model is not in the centre of the image looking forward but to the side facing the side which also makes it more interesting.
What could you learn from this photograph/photographer? How could you use it in your own work?
I could learn that using natural light as well as artificial can make a photo much ore interesting and I could use this in my work by using a combination of lighting.

I could learn that I could take a portrait almost anywhere and using natural light I can get a good effect. I could use it by taking portraits outside using natural light.
